Confucius said, “Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.” This is something that we all can appreciate, just like “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” But what really is beauty? I suppose it is defined differently by each of us. Just as I love Dali paintings, and enjoy listening to The Cure, there is surely someone who does not share my suggestion of their beautiful contributions.
I believe that beauty is something within us; it oozes through our pores from the inside out. The way we feel about our self, the confidence that we hold and display, everything from our morals, beliefs and standards to the way in which we view the world and everyone and everything in it. Maybe it’s respecting ourselves as well as others. Have you ever noticed that someone who is confident and self-assured radiates a form of beauty? Beauty comes from our mind and our spirit, as well as our body. Beauty is not what we look like, but how we look to others. And that is much more distinct than our physical presentation. Physical beauty can fade over time, but inner beauty is timeless.
